“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve…. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
--Martin Luther King, Jr.
A nonprofit board director’s value is not what they do for the organization they serve, but what they do for the community as a whole. UWFK is fortunate to have a board of directors who not only support our organization, but are actively involved in making the Keys community a better place to live.
Our board members are Rotary members, entrepreneurs, Chamber of Commerce members, Unsung Heroes, teachers, healthcare professionals, business people, and so much more. They serve on other nonprofit boards and spend countless hours organizing and attending events and benefits for every aspect of our community.
Full time residents of the Keys face many challenges, including a cost of living that is 44% higher than the national average. Almost 50% of residents don’t earn enough money to afford their basic needs and 13% are food insecure, lacking regular access to quality, nutritious food. Many families don’t make enough to send their children to quality childcare programs.
BUT, thanks to the relentless hard work and dedication of UWFK board members, last year our organization provided access to childcare for over 300 students. We helped feed over 15,000 Keys residents of all ages. Board members helped distribute over 15 pallets of school supplies worth thousands of dollars to students throughout the Keys, and used their connections to package over 200 summer literacy kits to help prevent summer learning loss.
UWFK could not have accomplished all that it has in the last year without the generous dedication of our board of directors. During this season of Thanksgiving, we express our gratitude for our incredible board and the amazing work they do. Your grace and love for this community are priceless, invaluable, and hugely appreciated. Thank you so much and thank you to all of our generous supporters throughout the community!
