Launching what it expects to be its biggest campaign to date, the United Way of the Florida Keys has added five new board members: marketing consultant Nikki Dunn; John Emery of Lower Keys Medical Center; Maria Jones of the Florida Keys Electric Cooperative; John Spain of Keys Event Management; and Ron Smith of Hawks Cay Resort.
Under the leadership of board chairman Candy Fincke, V.P. of Mariners Hospital, the United Way aims to reach new donors in its 2012 campaign launched this month. Board members will make presentations about the organization’s good work, and ask those who don’t already participate to join the 2,000 employees Keys-wide who give to the United Way. These donations, made through their paychecks, support programming of carefully-selected non-profits, including food pantries and after-school care for low-income families.
“Employees who donate $5.00 per pay period make a huge difference because your gifts are matched by state, corporate and foundation grants, some 16 to 1. Collectively across the Keys this adds up to funding for 18 life-changing programs in our focus areas of access to nutritious food, and early childhood and youth development. Our board chose these two critical issues where we knew we could move the needle – supporting strong, working families in the Keys,” said president Margie Smith.
If you would like a United Way representative to speak at a meeting of your employees, club, neighborhood or other organization, please contact Margie at (305) 735-1929 or [email protected].
