On Tuesday, March 15th, UWFK Board members worked all day in Marathon to refine our outlook for the years ahead at the Annual Board Strategic Visioning Retreat. Volunteer Board members from all areas of the Keys attended to plan our long-term vision, organize the next year’s calendar, reiterate the organization’s core values, and make sure strategic plans align with these values.
Debbie Mason, of Strategists Inc., lead the group activities. She began the day by asking each Board member to reflect on what inspired them to begin volunteering as leaders with United Way of the Florida Keys. Additionally, they were encouraged to think about the role they play within the organization, and how UWFK can best be of service to the community.
During lunch, Chelsea Wait, UWFK’s AmeriCorps VISTA, presented her Status of Children in Monroe County report. This report compiles statistics affecting children in seven major areas of their daily lives: Poverty and Income Inequality, Childcare and Education, Housing, Food Availability, Transportation, Families, Health and Healthcare, Jobs and Employment.
The strategic planning session of the retreat ended as Debbie helped the Board outline UWFK’s goals for the next year and next five years. Major changes include an increased focus on childcare and childcare funding, increased volunteerism efforts, and the cultivation of additional board members.
The March Monthly Meeting followed at the close of the Retreat.
UWFK would like to thank Debbie Mason for the amazing work and time she committed to leading this retreat!
