Hurricane Irma devastated the Florida Keys on September 10, 2017. The damage was widespread, and our beautiful island setting has not been the same since. However, help came from many, many places and the benevolence of others was evident. Even before Irma struck, as residents evacuated north they could see emergency crews heading south into Florida from places like Los Angeles, New York City, and many places in between. In a time of uncertainty, that alone brought hope to evacuees.
The images in our gallery focus mainly on the work of our nonprofit community partners, in their efforts to restore homes, buildings and programs essential to our community. They have helped thousands of Keys residents on their path back to normalcy. UWFK is proud to have supported 35 agencies in their work since Hurricane Irma changed all our lives. The road to recovery has been long and the journey is not over, but together we will create a stronger, better Florida keys as we all Live United.
Thank you to the many, many individuals and businesses who volunteered for clean up and rebuilding or who donated generously to the UWFK Hurricane Irma Relief and Recovery Fund. Your unselfish giving raised our spirits as well as $1.7 million for the Keys and we have disbursed those funds with gratitude.
